Sandra Keddie Photography – a little about me and what I do

Hi, and thank you for visiting. As you might imagine from the title, I am Sandra Keddie and this is all about my photography. For the last 12 years I have been operating my own photography business, I think I am mainly a portrait photographer, although I do also shoot corporate, events, products and even the occasional wedding, although after a long time in that business not so much now!! So I would say far more of a commercial photographer rather than family.

I also have a beautiful little boudoir photography business – Stylishly Sexy – that keeps me busy and makes me happy!

I have previously worked in the UK, where I trained and received my qualifications. My life and business is now completely in South Africa, where I was born and raised. I work from a residential studio in Hillcrest, Durban Upper Highway area, Kwa-Zulu Natal! Although I loved my time in Scotland and miss many people and things from there, South Africa is where I feel most at home, and each day working here gives me a thrill. I have an absolute passion about what I do and I aim to delight anyone who commissions me to be part of their experience.

I have several personal projects involving digital art, and when I can get the time I also enjoy wildlife photography. I believe life is to be lived and enjoyed, and I am blessed to be allowed to capture some of the special moments in other people’s lives as well as my own.

lots of love,

“You’ve got to dance like there’s nobody watching,

love like you’ll never hurt,

sing like there’s nobody listening,

live like it’s heaven on earth,

and speak from the heart to be heard”

William W. Purkey

There are lots of different versions of the “dance like nobody is watching” quote. It has found its way into popular culture and song lyrics. My understanding is that it is best credited to William W. Purkey. He is a Professor of Education, and during a varied career he has also been a park ranger and bomb disposal expert in the United States Air Force. He uses this quote to end speeches. I like it for lots of reasons – it sort of sums up what I want to do with my art, my photography, the people I meet and share my life with, and generally how I want to be remembered.

Like Purkey I have had quite a varied career, which began in the South African steel industry back in the 80’s. This allowed me to travel widely and to have some truly memorable experiences. Along the way I have developed a few skills, moving from being technical into training and then into marketing. I was very fortunate in 2006 to be given the chance to completely change paths. I have always had and maintained an interest in art and photography, and it seemed like the most obvious, thrilling, challenging and scary thing to pursue an ambition to create beautiful images and delight some people along the way.

Since that time I have steadily developed a successful photography studio and have been certified by both the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) and The Photographer Academy, run by Mark Cleghorn. Most recently I am absolutely delighted to have qualified as a Master Photographer with the Master Photographers Association (MPA).

More important than qualifications and kudos, I have had a wonderful time with some fantastic people. It is a genuine privilege to share someone’s wedding day or new baby, and to be allowed to capture images and memories. It is an honour to be asked by a body conscious, middle aged woman to take an intimate portrait that allows her to be reminded that she is a goddess. It is also so exciting to create something totally unique, producing digital fine art from concept to framed print. I believe I bring a unique perspective to my photography business, combining a talent for album and image design with a vision in the camera. I have a complete commitment to making sure my clients are absolutely satisfied, encouraging collaboration and idea sharing.
