Victoria and Angus at Ingliston Equestrian Centre, Bishopton

VA_040_070614 VA_245fb_070614A June wedding in Scotland. Did we expect rain …well to be honest you never can tell, but I have to say in 7 years of wedding photography I have only failed to get outside once, and that was in October. And I have experienced torrential downpours in South Africa too, when it should have been dry, so unfortunately the one thing you can’t plan is the weather. What you can plan is your venue, and as I have said before, take a good look at your venue and imagine what happens on a bad weather day.

Victoria and Angus were married in their local church then went on to a reception at the Ingliston Equestrian Centre, near Bishopton, a lovely wedding venue, even in bad weather. Victoria was radiant, with beautiful bridesmaids attending to her superbly. Angus was handsome in highland rig, with attendant Ushers and Best Man Russell doing the honours. All were in good form despite the rain.

The Salerno Suite at Ingliston is a beautiful reception room and gave more than enough images of quality and variety, but never to be defeated, we waited and the weather dried to let us outside for more. The reward was some fun images with the boys, a more relaxed bridal party and lovely romantic shots of the Bride and Groom looking towards the Clyde with the rolling mist and clouds on the mountains beyond, lit by the setting sun.

I have loved my time in Scotland, but at the end of this year, I will be working mostly from my studio in Hillcrest, South Africa, near Durban. I will always be back in Scotland for special shoots and visits, but from 2015, most of my weddings will be in South Africa. New country, new weather, new challenges …!!!

Victoria, Angus, you looked lovely together, it was a privilege to be part of your special day. I hope you enjoy these images, the rest are in your private online gallery.

Wedding cars – important to you?

First, a big apology! It seems the first thing to be neglected in busy times is this blog. I love to be busy, but this is a bit much … organising the relocation of home and business, weddings, babies, first communions and christenings, portraits. Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

Had a lovely wedding at Burnhouse Manor Hotel on Saturday with gorgeous MargaretRose and her handsome man Andrew. MargaretRose was beautiful in an antique lace gown, which really flattered her petite figure. She arrived in style in a graceful vintage vehicle. Andrew and his two best men arrived with a roar of red that was a V8 4.6 litre Mustang capable of producing 550 horsepower!! Quite an entrance, and a special surprise from Andrew’s bride to be! Mustang provided by Mustang Hire Scotland.

There is no question that the wedding day belongs to the bride – sorry guys! I did think it was a fabulous touch to include the Mustang, and it got me to thinking; over the years I have photographed Aston Martins, Jaguars, Bentleys, Rolls Royces, Beaufords, a couple of VW Campervans, a Beetle, and at least one double cab bakkie (SUV for the non South Africans!). For some people the wedding cars are very important, for others less so. From my point of view if certainly is a photo opportunity – what do people think?
